Meet Guy Russo
The barman and local campaigner running to be our next MP for Enfield North.
Guy has lived in Enfield for his entire life. He went to Chace Community School and has been active in the local community for years - particularly by fighting to save green spaces.
He spent almost a decade in the local hospitality industry, working in several of our fantastic pubs in Enfield North. He knows firsthand how important community spaces like pubs are, and how difficult it can be to operate a business locally.
Guy understands why people have lost trust in politics altogether in recent years - and believes that the only way to fix that is by proving the value of a hardworking local MP who knows their area and fights for a fair deal. His key mission is restoring your trust that we can work together, move beyond broken two-party politics and fix the problems we face.
"The Conservatives won’t win in Enfield North, and locally Enfield Labour do not deserve another term" says Guy
"The only way to really get change in our area is by breaking with the past and electing a new kind of MP to Parliament to represent us. I am standing because I want to make that happen for all of us - and believe together we can fight for a fair deal for Enfield"
Guy will fight to protect local green spaces. He has campaigned to protect Whitewebbs Park from Enfield Council’s leasing to Tottenham Hotspur for years. He wants to keep Enfield green and firmly opposes building on our local green belt land - because Lib Dems believe that everyone deserves access to the great outdoors.
Guy wants to see a new public transport strategy for our area - improving local links and facilitating building the right kind of new housing in our community to address the out-of-control housing crisis facing so many people. He campaigned for years to bring in what is now the 456 bus route - and will call out poorly performing bus operators who blight many local commuters.
He will also push to bring the police back to our streets, and bring back proper community policing. Guy is angry that so many robberies, burglaries and assaults in our area are going unsolved. As our MP, Guy would work with all parties to get new Community Police Hubs set up in Enfield to make up for the closure of our police station.
The Conservatives wrecked our economy and Labour have ruined our high streets. That's why Guy backs the Lib Dem plan for financial and legal support for local businesses, breathing new life into our local economy.
And he'll be the champion we need for our local NHS too. Guy grew up in a family that worked in the NHS - and strongly believes that recent cuts to the public health grant must be reversed. He'll fight for a new legal guarantee to be able to see a GP within seven days, or twenty four hours if the situation is critical - a goal that can be achieved with a huge new recruitment and training programme for GPs and a new 24-hour hotline for booking appointments.
