Enfield Liberal Democrats have launched a petition, http://campaigns.libdems.org.uk/Enfield_homes , to put pressure on the Mayor of London and central Government to bring properties on the A406 back into use as homes. 359 homes on and around the North Circular Road (A406) in Enfield are owned by Transport for London (TfL) and have been in a state of disrepair, vacant or offering temporary homes of poor standard for over 40 years. These properties must be brought up to a good standard to offer homes for the 6,000 people plus on the waiting list for homes in Enfield.

The houses were bought so that they could be demolished and the land could be used to extend the North Circular Road. This extension plan will not happen and TfL wants to sell the land and homes on to Enfield Council. These 3 and 4 bedroomed homes would be perfect for family homes or flats which would all help alleviate Enfield Council's waiting list for permanent housing. To purchase these homes circa £80million is required. Enfield Council has approached the Greater London Assembly and the Homes and Communities Agency to fund the purchase.

The petition urges London Mayor, Boris Johnson to be "true to his housing manifesto" and bring these empty homes which have "become havens of crime and anti-social behaviour" back into use for Enfield people seeking a home. The petition also urge the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), responsible for the provision of affordable and social housing in the UK to support the purchase of these homes and offer quality homes to families.
