Liberal Democrat European justice & human rights spokeswoman and London MEP Sarah Ludford has been re-elected for another 2-year term as a Council member of leading civil liberties campaigning NGO Liberty.
Sarah said:
"It is a great honour indeed to be a Council member for Liberty - and I am extremely pleased to have been returned for the fourth time, having been a member of Liberty's council for 6 years now."
"Much of my work on civil liberties and human rights is done in parallel and cooperation with Liberty, and I greatly admire the organisation's unwavering defence of our fundamental rights."
"I look forward to two more years of working together to achieve our common goals. Even though my party the Liberal Democrats is now in government, I will not let up in my advocacy of the rule of law and protection of the Human Rights Act."
"Indeed, I am confident that the new government will be much more civil liberties-friendly than the previous one, as already demonstrated in the abolition of ID cards. I am looking forward among other things to the the reform of terrorism laws and the restoration of rights to free speech and rights of protest."
