Sarah Ludford has put a series of questions to the European Commission about Spain's implementation of EU law on the requirement for 'advanced passenger information'. Sarah believes that in the light of EU free movement law, Spain and/or airlines are wrongly applying this in requiring UK air passengers to supply passport details when booking a flight to Spain. The latest exchange can be seen at the link below.
Sarah commented on the European Commission's reply:
"It's not impressive that the Commission is only now 'finalising' its assessment of compliance of the Spanish API scheme with EU law on free movement of EU citizens and data protection. I look forward to a definitive answer, including clarification on the status and legality of Easyjet's emails giving people the impression that if they fail to provide this data prior to departure they will not be able to board their flight."
