As a leading rights campaigner and patron of Fair Trials International, Sarah has again, in a radio interview you can download at the link below, expressed her dismay and anger at the failure of UK and European courts to block the extradition to Portugal of Gary Mann.
Although the European Arrest Warrant is in principle a valuable instrument to bring criminals swiftly to court, it should not prevail over a miscarriage of justice and denial of a fair trial as in Gary's case. Sarah is working hard for reform of the EAW system and to push up standards of criminal justice across Europe. She is leading for the European Parliament on legislation to give defendants the right to interpretation and translation in a another EU country's courts: she is sure that if Gary Mann had had proper interpretation, he would have been able to stand up for his rights in Portugal.
