Letter: Tory MEPs are losing while Lib Dems winning in European Parliament

Dear Sir,

It has become clear that Liberal Democrats are not only influential at Westminster and in running many local councils, but we are also the key players in securing cross-party agreements in Brussels that deliver for the people of London.

The Tories, meanwhile, have simply played themselves out of the game and sit miserable and marginalised.

A recent analysis by the respected ''Votewatch' organisation revealed that Liberal Democrats are on the winning side of more than 90% of votes in the European Parliament. We make or break deals on a whole host of issues concerning jobs, a clean environment, investment and fair treatment.

But British Conservative and UKIP Euro-MPs are the least likely to win votes in the Parliament. Thanks to David Cameron's idiotic move of pulling out of the big centre-right group in the European Parliament, his MEPs are losers while Lib Dems are winners.

Learning no lessons, Cameron has ordered Conservative councillors in the Committee of the Regions, the body that represents local government in the EU, also to leave the mainstream centre-right group. Like their MEP colleagues, the Tories there too have been left without allies or influence.

The party that aspires to move into No 10 is showing a great talent for being on the losing side!
