Johar Khan (Enfield Southgate), Iarla Kilbane-Dawe (Edmonton) & Paul D.Smith (Enfield North)
Enfield Liberal Democrats has elected its three prospective parliamentary candidates (PPC) for the forthcoming General Election. They are Iarla Kilbane-Dawe in Edmonton, Paul D.Smith in Enfield north and Johar Khan in Enfield Southgate.
Iarla Kilbane-Dawe was reselected as the PPC for Edmonton. "It's wonderful to be able to fight for Edmonton again and build on the work we did in 2005. Labour continues to let us down: leading us to war; recklessly driving the economy and failing to address the expenses outrage. I look forward to working with the people of Edmonton to address local and national issues."
Local activist and Enfield resident, Paul D. Smith, was chosen as the Liberal Democrat PPC for Enfield North. "Finally, Enfield North will have a local and honest choice," commented Paul on his selection. "It seems apt that I was chosen on the day that the current Labour MP, Joan Ryan, has been ordered to pay back over £5000 in expenses. Politics needs to be cleaned up, our politicians need to be accountable and the Liberal Democrats have the most radical policies to make Westminster trustworthy once more."
Supporting the party's council candidates in Southgate will be Johar Khan, the PPC for Enfield Southgate. Johar will stand against the current Conservative MP.
"I'm delighted to have been selected," said Johar Khan, currently a councillor in Waltham Forest. "Education, crime and health are important issues locally and our policies will see smaller class sizes, more police officers and I'll be supporting my colleagues to ensure that hospitals in Enfield exist, are within a reasonable distance and offer excellent care."
Party chair, David Peters, added: "We were very lucky to have a number of outstanding candidates and the decision was not an easy one, however, we have three excellent PPCs for Enfield and are all ready to listen to local people and fight hard in the General Election.
