Gritted Enfield roads, thanks to Richmond Council and Scandinavia.
Enfield drivers can thank Liberal Democrat Richmond Council and those nice Scandinavians for helping to keep traffic moving. Enfield Council was forced to borrow grit from Richmond and import grit from Scandinavia after local stocks ran low. The Council apparently expected to be able to buy new stocks in the UK, missing the obvious that the rest of the country was trying to do the same.
Councils across the country also blamed the Government for failing to adopt a national strategy after the February 2009 freeze when grits stocks also ran low. Representations made to Government we not even responded to until December 2009, with no actual action taking place.
