2006 Annual General Meeting

November 23, 2006 7:17 PM

Monica explains how to winThe Annual General Meeting was held on Tuesday 21st November at the Bourne Methodist Church in Southgate. As well as familiar faces, it was pleasing to see some new members.

The President, opened the evening and there then followed reports from the various party officers. The elections of new officers for the forthcoming year then took place. The new party officers, together with their contact details, will be identified on the website shortly.

The President then called upon our guest speaker, Monica Whyte, to address the meeting. Monica is a barrister and Liberal Democrat councillor for Hornsey (Haringey Council). Monica gave an extremely interesting and informative account of how Liberal Democrats in Haringey have managed to move from 1995, when they have no representatives on the local council and two Labour MPs, to 2006 where they have 27 councillors (out of 57) and Lynne Featherstone representing Hornsey and Wood Green at Westminster.

We were also fortunate to have Andrew Wiseman of Haringey Liberal Democrats present, and he added a few words of wisdom in support of the ideas and suggestions that Monica had shared with us.

Monica then took questions from the floor, fleshing out some more detail on her presentation and this was much appreciated by those present.

Before closing, the President and Chair reminded everyone that meetings of both the Executive Campaign Committees are open to all members. Any member who wishes to attend is more than welcome to do so and their opinions, contributions, suggestions and ideas to the meetings will be greatly appreciated.

The next Executive Committee meeting is on Tuesday 12th December at 20:00. It will take place at Data Connection Ltd, 100 Church Street, Enfield. The dates and locations of future Executive and Campaign Committee meetings will be published as soon as they are finalised.

For further information on these meetings, please contact our chair, Brian Cronk (see Contacts page for details).

Finally the President thanked our guests and the meeting closed.
