Enfield Liberal Democrats today launched their "Commitments to Enfield" - a 10-point promise from the local party to all residents across the borough.
Speaking at the launch Edmonton Lib-dem spokesperson Dervish Mertcan said "It's important that residents know where we stand on crucial local issues such as rises in council tax, the implementation of the Safer Neighbourhood teams and funding for Voluntary Sector Organisations. The borough of Enfield has been let-down by successive Tory and Labour councils whose approach to our community life has been at best confused and at worst inept. At the heart of the Lib-dem commitments is the aim to improve the quality of life for every resident across the whole borough."
We oppose above-inflation increases to the level of council tax charged.
We will aim to increase the amount of household waste recycled and double the amount of commercial waste recycled.
We will work with the police to complete the rollout of the Safer Neighbourhoods Team and ensure that every household across the Borough is supplied with the contact details of their local team.
We oppose the transfer of Enfield schools out of Local Education Authority control and will work for a fairer admissions process.
We will support access to local sport and leisure facilities and oppose any above-inflation increases to charges.
We will improve the quality of life, commercial activity and safety in our streets, by good design and traffic management. This will include a borough-wide review of all current and proposed Controlled Parking Zones (CPZ).
We will continue to preserve existing parklands and the greenbelt.
We will invest more effectively in services to meet the needs of young people, the elderly and people with disabilities.
We will simplify and improve the coordination of Council funding for voluntary sector organisations.
We oppose any reduction of health services in Enfield.
