In 2004 the number of deaths and injuries on London roads fell by a remarkable 19%. Enfield showed one of the lowest falls of just 5% and recorded the third highest level of casualties (1,449) of all 32 Greater London boroughs, with only Westminster and Barnet recording worse figures. In neighbouring Haringey the number of casualties fell by over 17%.
All of this is at a time when traffic calming measures across Enfield are being reduced. What residents really need is genuine consultation on ways to reduce accidents and a greater emphasis placed on working with local schools to promote road safety.
