Cllr Michael Rye, the Tory leader of Enfield Council, proudly told BBC One's 'Politics Show' on Sunday 13th November that he is looking at a rise of between 6-7% in Council Tax next year. Cllr Rye blames the government for the potential increase, but non-Tory councils countrywide don't seem to be predicting such a gloomy year ahead for their taxpayers.
He also confidently told the programme that if job vacancies in the Council weren't filled, then as of next year the Tory administration could possibly get rid of these positions.
Cutting back on Council positions, whether they are currently filled or not, can only mean reduced services for the people of Enfield and yet, with this administration, we might still get a rise in Council Tax.
In stark contrast, Enfield Liberal Democrats have pledged to reverse the Council's current poor financial leadership and ensure that Council Tax rises are limited to no more than inflation.
